New tracks are expected to be drawn by the desert sands in managing Moroccan-Mauritanian relations. Immediately after the Guerguerat operation، the leaders of the two countries are expected to meet to discuss several files، which are undoubtedly preceded by the regional situation and recent developments in the region.
King Mohammed VI's willingness to visit Mauritania constituted a new turning point in the path of liberating the Guerguerat crossing، especially after the support that the operation witnessed at the regional level، and the fact that Algeria remained isolated from its traditional positions on the conflict over the Sahara.
Algeria، despite its constant endeavors to ensure the negativity of the Mauritanian position، was unable to guarantee it over the separatist passions this time، which was confirmed by the southern neighbor's standing at a distance of silent neutrality، despite the great economic damage it suffered.
The preference for economic data between the two parties would ensure a more smooth Mauritanian position on the Sahara، especially since the local markets were severely affected by the suspension of the movement of trucks carrying basic materials and various goods.
Dr. Hassan Bellawan، a research professor in international relations، stated that the Moroccan-Mauritanian relations are very sensitive politically، economically and socially as well، noting that the contact between the two leaders has many strategic dimensions، especially after the rapid events that define the Sahara issue.
As for Ballawan، coordination between the two countries has not been interrupted despite some cold periods caused by the former Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz، and this is evident in the recent Guergara operation that the Moroccan army carried out in full coordination with the Mauritanian army and the MINURSO forces.
This has given it، according to Al-Marhirah Hespress، a regional dimension، even though it concerns the borders between the two neighboring countries. Mauritania is a country concerned with the Sahara issue. Historically، its position ranges between negative neutrality and positive neutrality، according to its strategic relations with Morocco or according to the pressures exerted by Algeria on it.
The spokesman noted that the visit comes to strengthen relations with the sisterly southern neighbor، and then to coordinate at the highest level in order to search for a political solution to this fabricated conflict، which cannot be achieved without the participation of Mauritania as a country directly concerned.
Thirdly، the visit aims to "cut off the road to Algerian temptations and pressures on the Islamic Republic of Mauritania، " Dr. Hassan Bellouan said، stressing that the relations between the two countries will always be advanced and strategic، regardless of the regional parties intervening to influence them، and this is what the royal initiative tries to indicate by contacting the Mauritanian president.
