The National University of Associations for the owners and exploiters of traditional baths and sprinklers in Morocco sent a letter to the Prime Minister، Saad Eddine El Othmani، in which it called for decisions to be taken to mitigate the effects of the pandemic on them، chief among them the work to open the doors of the bathrooms while adhering to the preventive measures and sanitary safety established by the Pandemic Management Committee.
The Othmani University called، in view of what was left by the state decisions to open and close at other times، to exempt professionals from accumulated taxes، with total exemption from performing the duties of renting shops that are in the property of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs، and to find a legal formula for private bathroom owners.
The owners of the bathrooms stressed، in their letter received by the online newspaper Hespress، as part of the proposals submitted to the Prime Minister، that the hammam should be approved as a health facility within the Ministry of Health program، and that the traditional hammam should be considered a cultural heritage within a government program.
The National University of Associations for the owners and exploiters of traditional baths also called on the government to support the bath technically and technically to ensure its existence and continuity within the economic fabric، in line with the global program for environmental protection.
The president of the university، Rabih Umchi، said in a statement to the online newspaper Hespress، that "the epidemiological situation has put the owners and employees of the bathrooms on the verge of bankruptcy، knowing that the bathroom sector is a socio-economic project whose financial mass is not able to overcome such difficulties and vibrations represented in the closure decisions، " as he put it.
The same spokesman explained that the correspondence of the Prime Minister، Saad al-Din al-Othmani، is part of submitting proposals to alleviate the impact of the pandemic on the owners and managers of the baths، as well as to save this national cultural heritage from extinction due to the decisions that are taken.
Messero and the owners of the baths refuse to ignore this sector by the authorities despite its importance in the national economic and social fabric، as it constitutes a source of livelihood for many families، as well as for its place in the Moroccan heritage and popular culture.
Thousands of men and women are employed in this sector nationwide، who are the breadwinners for their families، and who live in a dire situation due to lack of daily income; Not to mention the illnesses caused by the heat in the bathrooms، in the absence of their enrollment in the Social Security Fund.
